How long has the preschool been in existence and how long has the Director been here?
Mascoma Cooperative Preschool has existed since 1985 and our Director has been on board since 2004.
Are you a religious preschool?
No. We rent space from the Community Lutheran Church. MCP is not affiliated with the church. We do not teach religion.
Is Mascoma Cooperative Preschool licensed by the State of NH?
Yes, we are licensed through the State of NH Child Care Licensing and hold the Licensing Plus status as well.
What is your tuition?
Thanks to grant funding and generous donations, tuition for the 2021-2022 school year is $63/month for a two-day/week program and $96/month for a three-day/week program. A four-day/week program is available if a minimum of 5 families choose to enroll their child in our optional, additional class offered on Wednesdays and is $128/month.
How old does my child have to be to attend?
Children must be 3 years old by September 30th.
What does your preschool calendar look like?
MCP follows a similar calendar to the Mascoma School District. We typically begin the day after Labor Day and end on May 31st. We follow the public-school calendar for vacations and holidays.
What are your classroom hours?
Three-year olds attend Tuesdays and Thursdays 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Four-year olds attend Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays 8:00 AM-12:00 PM.
Wednesdays are offered to both age groups, and will be held as an additional, optional day if a minimum of 5 children enroll to attend on Wednesdays.
We offer an early drop-off time of 7:45am for a nominal fee ($5)
Is my child required to be toilet trained?
Yes, children must be toilet trained prior to the first day of attendance. We understand the toilet trained children will occasionally have toileting accidents. By definition “accidents” are unusual incidents that happen infrequently.
Are you a play-based program?
Yes, the activities at MCP are based around child-centered play. Our environment is also screen-free.
Do you have a playground?
Yes, we play outside every day unless it is raining, or the temperature is below 10 degrees with the wind chill factored in.
What parental/family involvement is required?
Families are required to provide a snack for the class on a rotating basis. We encourage families to participate in the classroom activities on their assigned snack day.
Families are also encouraged to participate in fundraising.
Our Board of Directors is comprised of volunteer family members.
What is the maximum class size and teacher/student ratio?
We have a qualified early childhood educator leading the class as well as an assistant teacher. A family helper on a rotating basis is also encouraged to participate in our day.
How do you accommodate food allergies?
At the beginning of the year a healthy snack menu will be provided. This menu is based off any documented food allergies and must be followed. We have a back-up snack supply if needed. If used it must be replaced the following day.
Are field trips offered in your program?
Yes, we schedule several field trips for learning outside of the classroom.
Is fundraising a part of your program?
Several fundraising events are scheduled throughout the year to offset the operating budget. Fundraising helps keep our tuition affordable and parents are encouraged to participate.
Can I visit the classroom without an appointment?
An appointment is required as the doors are locked during classroom hours as a safety precaution for the children.*
